Now that you have your InEvent subscription set up, you can go ahead to start your live streams. But first, you want to ensure everything is in good working order. In this post, we will demonstrate exactly how to conduct a test stream on the InEvent platform.

One of the most critical aspects of streaming is the video’s sharpness. You don’t want your audience struggling to see or hear the content you’re streaming. You need great video and sound quality. And this is why it’s a brilliant idea to do a test stream before you go public. Let’s take a look at exactly how to do this.

Test-streaming on InEvent

First, log in to your InEvent account. Then create an activity and set the video mode to RTMP. This means we are streaming using RTMP.

Note that RTMP streaming takes video feeds from your computer and streams them live for numerous people to see.

You first need to use an application like OBS studio to create the video content you want to stream. So, we will add video content to OBS.

To do this, you go to the media source and add the video you want to stream.

Note that you need to connect the OBS Studio to the activity session for the streaming to work.

You go to the InEvent backend and copy the stream key for this to happen. To do this:

  1. Click edit and go to the RTMP settings.
  2. Click on “Live stream using external software.”
  3. Go to “View information,” and a window will open. You will see the details in the window.

You need only two things here – a stream URL and a stream key. You can pick this information from either endpoint A or endpoint B. Any of them is fine.

Copy the stream URL and go straight to OBS settings; go to stream and paste the stream URL under the “server.” This is you telling OBS to use the InEvent server for the streaming.

The stream key will be the password for the event. It is like you giving OBS the password to your event. Therefore, you will go back to endpoint A, where you copied the stream URL, to copy the stream key and paste it inside OBS. Then save by clicking “ok.” Saving it connects it automatically to the InEvent stream key

After this point:

  • Go back to OBS and click on “start streaming.”
  • Return to the InEvent platform.
  • Refresh and see your live streaming.

And that is how to test-stream on the InEvent platform before you start your fire streaming to your audience.

Conclusion

It is advisable to first test your streaming before your event. That way, you will be sure that everything works well before you then stream to your audience.
